We are happy to announce that three incoming Freshman to Holy Cross of San Antonio received a $1,000 scholarship  from the combined efforts of St. Joseph’s Society Hall and Hope for the Future.

St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Benevolent Association (St. Joseph’s Society), a 501(c)3 non profit charitable corporation chartered in 1885, is one of the oldest Catholic men’s organizations in the state. This organization supports Catholic charities and education, making scholarships available every year to incoming Freshman. The Society has over 120 members who volunteer to help raise funds predominately through participation in the King William Fair and from rental of their banquet hall.(1)

Hope for the Future is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization initiated by community leaders to make Catholic school a reality for impoverished families in the San Antonio area as a way out of the cycle of poverty. It is Hope for the Future’s goal to fund every deserving child whose family seeks the faith-filled and academically rigorous education at one of our Catholic schools. Since the inception in December 2006, Hope for the Future has awarded over $12 million in tuition assistance funds to 9,800 students.(2)

St. Joseph’s Society teamed up with Hope for the Future and awarded $1000 scholarships to twenty-two  incoming freshmen at San Antonio Catholic high schools for the 2015-2016 school year. These non-renewing scholarships were awarded based on grades, class attendance, extracurricular activities, community service, Church service, family income, and other criteria.

SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT- FINAL BRACKETS

Alumni:

We have been putting the final touches on the planning efforts involving the rescheduled dates for our Softball Tournament. While the new brackets will be provided shortly, the following information should give everyone the information they need to plan accordingly. If anyone has any questions about the event, please contact any one of us on the Committee (contact info below). Thanks again and looking forward to a great tournament!

New Tournament Dates:
* Friday, June 5th (4p – 10p) – Four games will be played (starting at 6pm);
* Saturday, June 6th (6a – 10p) – Remaining games will be played (starting at 8am and going through to Championship rounds, ending at 8pm)

* Camp Sites: All existing camp sites will be honored, however to ensure ease of set up and tear down we will only allow pop-up tents – no professionally-installed tents will be permitted. We will not allow trucks/vehicles on the track this weekend, so anything you can carry or roll will be allowed through one of the two access points (Rivas entrance or Main lot entrance)

* BBQ: While you are welcomed to BBQ on Friday we will not have security overnight, which means you will need to take your pit back home or chain it up and hope it’s still there in the morning.

* Security: We will have security on site for Friday afternoon and Saturday all day. There will be no security provided overnight.

* Parking: We will be honoring the decals for those that purchased spots in the main parking lot. Please hold onto them for Friday/Saturday. If you need another one, just reach out to us (contact below). The back parking lot behind the softball field will be free parking. We are still confirming whether Gus Garcia’s parking lot will be available. We will update each of you if this is confirmed.

* Beer: You are welcomed to bring your choice of beverage, provided that it is in a can. Please refrain from bringing bottles or liquor on campus. Please be sure to bring your own ice as well – we will not be selling any.

* Captains: We will need you to confirm your participation. Please review the brackets and call, text or email us to confirm.

Softball Tournament Update:

Alumni: thanks for your patience as our committee has been meeting to go through the logistics for continuing the tournament on June 6th and June 7th. If all teams remaining participate then we will definitely need both days to host semi-final and final rounds through Sunday, so please plan accordingly.

The new brackets should be posted today or by tomorrow, but until then you should anticipate a full Saturday and and half-Sunday of games. Captains, we will be reaching out to you this weekend to confirm your participation.

Lastly, we’ve received numerous responses about tent set-up, beer and BBQ’ing that weekend. We are meeting as a team this week to discuss all of those items and will update you by this Friday with additional details.

Thanks again for your support of Holy Cross. Our Softball Committee looks forward to working with you all in having a great tournament experience.

All the best,
