 In your prayers please remember Rose Mary De Luna who died on Monday, December 30, 2019.  She is the wife of Erwin De Luna Class of 1967.  Both Rose Mary and Erwin have a rich heritage at Holy Cross of San Antonio.  Other relatives of Rose Mary and Erwin De Luna include Edwin De Luna also Class of 1967, Charles A. De Luna Class of 1971, Louis J. De Luna Class of 1972, Michael J. De Luna Class of 1975, Stephanie De Luna Hickson Class of 2009, Louis Hickson Class of 2009 and Allison De Luna Class of 2001.

De Leon.  Dr. De Leon has been a sincere friend of Holy Cross since its founding in 1957.  Since that time he has served and supported Holy Cross of San Antonio in numerous ways but always as a loyal and true friend.  Many alumni and alumni families established their medical care with Dr. De Leon and continued until his retirement a few years ago.

Richard R. Alaniz gained his Heavenly Wings on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at the age of 73. Richard was born in Charlotte, Texas on June 17, 1946. He is preceded in death by his parents, Graviel Solis Alaniz Jr. & Sulema Rios Alaniz and his brother, Alfred Alaniz.

Richard is survived by his wife of 51 years, Virginia Bara Alaniz; his 6 children, Cynthia (Jesse) Arguello, Richard (Kimberly) Alaniz Jr., Carlos Alaniz, Eric (Monica) Alaniz, Jason (Melissa) Alaniz, Jennifer (Ruben) Yañez; 18 grandchildren, Matthew, Stacey (Alex), Ashley, Hailee, Tatiana, Caleb, Billy, Arianna, Diego, Zach, Ryan, Erin, Brandon, Juliana, Avery, Chlöe, Ruben Jr. & Bryan; 4 great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Logan, Reagan, Ariya; his four-legged furry companion of 16 years, Sophie; 5 sisters; Adela, Sulema, Gloria, Diana, Norma; 4 brothers, Graviel III, Raul, Baldemar, Martin; and numerous nieces & nephews.

Richard graduated from Southside High School in 1965, where he was a three sport athlete. He was drafted at the age of 19 into the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He was stationed in Fort Hamilton, New York and proudly served his country overseas in Frankfurt, Germany as a Field Radio Mechanic. Sgt. Alaniz was awarded a National Defense Service Medal and awarded Marksman (Rifle). He was Honorably Discharged and moved back home to San Antonio, Texas in 1967.

Richard was a hard working man, he was a former employee of the following; Globe, Shoppers World, Albertsons, Cornelius Mexico & USA, Schroeder of America.

Mr. Alaniz was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren in their various sports programs, no matter the distance. He supported Holy Cross of San Antonio, where his 4 boys attended and graduated from. He volunteered many hours at Holy Cross and was a member of the Booster Club where he was known as “Mr. A.” Mr. Alaniz proudly supported his children and influenced so many others from 1987-1999 and continues his legacy as a proud fan of the Holy Cross Knights. Richard ’89, Carlos ’92, Eric ’94, Jason ’98, Jen (cheerleader) ’95-’99, Jesse ’85, Matthew ’07, Stacey (Alex) ’10, Ashley ’19, Juliana ’21. He will be dressed in his HC guayabera shirt and taking a new HC baseball cap to shake down the thunder from the sky…onward to victory, Fight! Fight! Fight!

In your prayers please remember Maria Del Socorro Martinez.  Maria Martinez died on Tuesday, November 12, 2019.  She is the mother of Pedro Martinez Class of 1990 and Francisco Martinez Class of 1993.

Maria del Socorro Martinez, 83, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, died November 12 following a long illness. She was a graduate of Incarnate Word High School and Incarnate Word College.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro L. Hernandez and Margarita Castillo Hernandez. She is survived by her spouse of 52 years, Pedro F. Martinez; and four children: daughters Carmela McMorrough (Jordan) and Maria Socorro Losoya (Danny); and sons Pedro G. Martinez (Joan) and Francisco Martinez (Laura); as well as grandchildren Anthony, Joseph, Ariana, Lucia, Olivia, Diego, Alejandro, Leila, and Mateo. She is also survived by her brother Pedro Hernandez, Jr. (Irene), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks for her caregivers over the past decade.

Visitation will be Friday, November 15 at 6:00 p.m., followed by rosary at 7:00 p.m. at The Angelus Funeral Home, 1119 N. St. Mary’s St., San Antonio. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday, November 16, at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2123 West Commerce, in San Antonio. Interment will follow at San Fernando Cemetery II.
