(San Antonio, Texas) Holy Cross of San Antonio’s senior, Bianca Rosas, is named the Gates Millennium Scholar 2013. Out of 54,000 applicants, she is one of 1,000 talented students nationwide selected for this distinguished and highly competitive scholarship which will cover her Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degrees. Ms. Rosas is the third recipient in the history of Holy Cross to be named a Gates Millennium Scholar.

“I want to major in Biology, because I hope to eventually earn my medical degree,” said Bianca Rosas, Gates Millennium Scholar 2013. “I plan on attending St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas.”

“When I introduce myself, I say, ‘Hi, my name is Bianca Rosas, and one day I’m going to change the world,’” said Ms. Rosas. “The work I did in raising funds to feed the Uganda orphaned children is only the beginning for me. I want to help people and change the world for the better.”

The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program selects 1,000 talented students each year to receive a good-through-graduation scholarship to use at any college or university of their choice. The GMS provides scholars with personal and professional development through leadership programs along with academic support throughout their college career.

“She’s an intelligent and committed student who will go far in life,” said Brother Stanley Culotta, C.S.C., M.D., President. “Ms. Rosas exemplifies the values and principles of the Holy Cross tradition both academically and spiritually.”

“I’m really grateful to Holy Cross for educating me not just in my regular core subjects but also educating me in my faith,” said Ms. Rosas. “I really have learned a lot from Holy Cross and from my teachers. The amount of respect each person has for one another is admirable. I owe it to Holy Cross for always encouraging me to do more community service and especially to be a leader in my school and in my community. All of it has helped me to get the Gates Millennium Scholarship. I’m grateful to Rev. Wood, the school’s counselor, for always pushing me to reach higher.”
