MR. BILLY MC WILLIAMS JOINS THE HOLY CROSS FAMILY

Mr. Billy Mc Williams has joined our Holy Cross family. Originally from our city’s Westside, he is a distinguished graduate from Paul Quinn College in Waco, TX where he received his Bachelor of Science, Mathematics in 1977. In 1985, Mr. Mc Williams earned a Master’s of Science, Industrial Engineering with a specialization in Engineering Administration from St. Mary’s University. He spent time, post-graduate studies at the University of California at Santa Barbara studying Computer Information Systems, attended the Summer Institute for AP Computer Science Teachers at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1999, attended the Institute for AP Calculus at the University of Texas at Dallas in January 2000 and attended the “Capturing Kids Heart” Institute for Teen Leadership in November 2000.

Since 1990, Mr. Mc Williams has taught as an Adjunct Mathematics Professor at Palo Alto Community College.  In May 1999 until 2011 he became the Program Director at Our Lady of The Lake University for the P.R.E.P. II Program.

Mr. Mc Williams is now teaching Holy Cross’ Juniors and Seniors. Welcome Mr. Mc Williams we are excited and proud to have you as a new addition to our community!

Experience:

  • 1990-Current: Adjunct Mathematics Professor at Palo Alto Community College.
  • 1999-2011- Program Director for U.T.S.A. Pre-Freshmen Engineering Program (P.R.E.P II) at Our Lady of the Lake University.
  • Assistant Director/ Instructor at Palo Alto College for the U.T.S.A. Pre-Freshmen Engineering Program (P.R.E.P. I).
  • 2000-2008- Mathematics Instructor for the Harlandale Independent School District.
  • 2006-2008- Department Chairman for Harlandale Independent School District, The school for Leadership and Public Service at McCollum High School.
  • 1983-1999- Computer Science Instructional Specialist/Mathematics Instructor with the Edgewood Independent School District.
  • 1999-2002- Governor’s Task Force for Mathematics Initiatives
  • Governor’s Advisory Council of Mathematics
  • TEA Advisory Council of Mathematics

CLASS OF 2020 ON LOCAL MORNING SHOW TO PROMOTE FUNDRAISER

Holy Cross’ 7th Grade Class was on the KENS 5  Great Day SA Morning Show. They were there to promote their Jewelry Sale Fundraiser. The 7th Grade Jewelry Sale will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, December 2nd. The sale will begin at 3:00 p.m. and run until 8:00p.m. or until the last customer leaves. Everything will be $5.00, statement necklaces, bracelets, earrings, scarves and much more!!!

WALL OUT THE TEACHER

This morning our Holy Cross student’s participated in our annual Wall Out the Teacher event.  Today ended our month long  food drive by  having all the  homeroom classes build a wall of cans to see which class had the most.

The Food Drive was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who participated!!

The Freshmen Class is having a Gourmet Deep Dish Pie Fundraiser! The Fundraiser began on Friday, November 21 and will run to December 5, 2014 when orders and money will be due. This is a pre-paid fundraiser so please ensure to collect the money when each order is placed. Thank you for supporting the Class of 2018!!

BROTHER STANLEYS’ CARICATURE UNVEILED AT THE PALM RESTAURANT

On Tuesday, November 11, 2014 Brother Stanleys’ Caricature was unveiled at The Palm Restaurant. The experience was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Gerry Impelman who were the silent auction winners of the restaurant package at this years Fourth Annual President’s Blue & Gold Gala. The package included lunch and a personalized caricature. The Impleman’s gifted the experience to Brother Stanley whose caricature is now proudly displayed alongside Brother Daniel Durigs’ Caricature.

Today, Principal Galindo attended a special breakfast hosted by Archbishop Gustavo Siller.

Attendees of the breakfast were the Archbishop, the Superintendent, Mrs. Marti West, and all of the area principals from the Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese of San Antonio.

Thank you for your leadership, Archbishop Siller and Superintendent West.

FRESHMEN THEOLOGY STUDENTS CREATE FREE STANDING CHURCH STRUCTURES

Mr. Foreman’s Freshmen Theology Class, was challenged to make the tallest, free standing church structures, only using  marshmallows and spaghetti as materials. The students competed against each other to determine who could make the tallest structure. The photos below show the class winners.

HOLY CROSS ALUMNUS ELECTED TO THE EDGEWOOD SCHOOL BOARD

Congratulations to Alumnus, Dr. Eddie Muzquiz Rodriguez , Class of 1984, for being elected to the Edgewood School Board. After attending Edgewood ISD Schools, H.K. Williams Elementary and Gus Garcia Jr. High School, Dr. Rodriguez came to Holy Cross. After graduating from Holy Cross he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from St. Mary’s University in 1989. He continued to work in the Edgewood ISD for 25 years in multiple positions: a substitute teacher, Science Teacher at Wrenn Middle School and Math & Science Academy (John F. Kennedy High School); Curriculum Specialist; and Administrator of the Toltech T-STEM Academy of Memorial High School. Dr. Rodriguez played an instrumental role in writing the grant for the eight-classroom Science Lab Building at Kennedy High School and the six-classroom Science Lab Building at Memorial High School. In 2001, he earned in Master’s Degree in Education, with emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction (in Integrated Science Instruction K-12), from Our Lady of the Lake University. Dr. Rodriguez received has Doctorate Degree (PhD) in Education Administration from Texas A&M University, College Station in 2012. Currently, Dr. Rodriguez is working as the Principal of the Harlandale ISD STEM Early College High School-Alamo Colleges at Palo Alto, which is the first STEM Early College High School in a large metropolitan area in Texas and the first in San Antonio. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Texas A&M University-San Antonio, he teaches a Secondary Science Methods Course.

Accomplishments:

  • Superintendent’s Certificate from The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA).
  • Presented at State and National Conferences about strategies for teaching and addressing the needs of students.
  • Worked in Mexico City as a presenter at the “Secretaria de Educacion Publica (SEP)” (Mexico’s Department of Education)
  • 2008 Fulbright Scholar Award Recipient from the United Stated State Department for travel to Mexico City to learn about their education system.
  • Clark Scholar Recipient from Texas A&M College Station.
  • Worked as a private consultant assisting schools in Rhode Island and Texas at improving their academics performances in science and mathematics.
