The varsity football team capped off homecoming week with a 60-12 victory over St. Anthony. The team is 6-1 overall and 3-0 in district, will enjoy a week off, and then play St. Michael’s Academy on Saturday, October 23 for sole possession of first place in district.

The football team beat The St. Joseph Flyers 43-7 in a district game to improve to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in district. The defense played a superb game limiting the Flyers to 5 first downs and 123 total yards. Raymond Hickson blocked a punt that was returned for a TD by Erik Bonenberger. The offense, meanwhile, rolled up 533 yards and is 2nd in the San Antonio area in total offense.
JD Hernandez completed 12 of 21 passes for 193 yards and 1 TD. He also ran the ball 5 times for 80 yards and a TD. JD is 3rd in the area in passing yards with 1,259 yards. He’s thrown 13 TD’s on the season. James Stark has caught 22 of those passes for 522 yards and 6 TD’s. James is 5th in the area in receiving yards.
Mark Hernandez scored on a 20 yard reception.
Tyler Cardenas took advantage of some excellent blocking by rushing 19 times for 182 yards and 3 TD’s. He has 14 TD’s so far this season.
Next game is Saturday, October 9 at 3:00pm against St. Anthony. It’s our homecoming game and will be played here at the school.
The varsity football team defeated Brownsville St. Joseph in the district opener in Brownsville, 48-7. Tyler Cardenas scored on a 59 yard run just 14 seconds into the game to begin the rout. He finished the game with 19 rushes for 230 yards and 3 TD’s.
Sam Romero caught a 38 yard TD pass from JD Hernandez and Tyler scored again to end the first quarter scoring.
James Stark scored in the second quarter on a 35 yard pass.
In the second half, Tyler scored another TD, Domingo Rios scored on a 65 yard run, and Sam Moreno scored the final TD on a 1 yard run.
The offense gained 582 total yards and defense limited St. Joseph to 205 total yards.

The varsity football team beat Lytle, 49-0, to improve to 3-1 on the the season.
Tyler Cardenas opened up the scoring with a 9 yard run just 1:03 into the first quarter. Sam Romero scored on a 61 yard run. Tyler scored again on a short run and James Stark caught a 24 yard pass to cap a 26 point opening quarter for the Knights.
Sam Kicked a 36 yard field goal, Tyler scored on a 55 yard run, and JD Hernandez scored the last two touchdowns on runs of 36 and 1.
The defense limited Lytle to 55 yards rushing and 55 yards passing.
Next game is a district opener against Brownsville St. Joseph in Brownsville on Saturday, September 25 at 3:00pm.
The varsity football team scored three times in the first quarter to put the Southside Cardinals on their heels early. Scoring for the Knights were Tyler Cardenas, James Stark, DJ Kirkendoll, Pete Rivera, and John Libby.
JD Hernandez attempted only 9 passes but he completed 7 of them for 214 Yards and 4 TD’s.
James Stark’s 3 catches went for 136 yards and 2 TD’s.
Pete Rivera returned a fumble 23 yards for a touchdown.
The defense swarmed to the ball all night long led by David Leal, Matt Balderas, Nick Neff, Manuel Hurtado, and Frank Orta.
Next game is Friday, September 17 @ Lytle. Game time is 7:30pm
The varsity football team scored 35 points in the first half to cruise to a 41-7 win over the TMI Panthers to move their record to 1-1.
James Stark opened up the scoring with a 72 yard strike from JD Hernandez. The flood gates opened in the second quarter when Sam Romero scored on a 57 yard punt return. Less than three minutes later JD scored on a 55 yard run that had him spinning and breaking tackles along the way. A Tyler Cardenas 6 yard TD run was set up by a crushing 70 yard catch and run by DJ Kirkendoll. Domingo Rios scored later in the quarter to put the game out of reach.
